Spec comparison · Range Rover Velar vs. Porsche Macan
A figure-by-figure comparison of the 2026 Range Rover Velar and every Macan Porsche currently sells in the US, gas and electric. Every number comes from the manufacturers' own US spec data, grouped so you can see where these two mid-size luxury SUVs are close and where they are far apart.
Quick answer
The Range Rover Velar is the bigger SUV where it counts for passengers and cargo. It stands 66.3 inches tall to the Macan's 63.8 to 63.9 inches, and Land Rover lists 30.9 cubic feet behind the rear seats against 15.9 to 18.3 cubic feet in the Macan Electric's rear and 17.2 in the gas Macan's. On length the two are nearly even: the Velar is 188.9 inches, the Macan Electric 189.2 inches, and the gas Macan 186.1 inches.
Porsche sells two different vehicles under one name, and their numbers are not interchangeable.
Porsche's US site currently lists two separate Macan families. The gas Macan (Macan, Macan T, Macan S and Macan GTS) is shown as a 2026 model and rides on the older, shorter platform. The all-electric Macan (Macan Electric, Macan 4, 4S, GTS and Turbo Electric) is shown as a 2027 model and is a newer, larger vehicle with a 100 kWh battery. Automotive press widely reports 2026 as the final year for the gas Macan in the US, so if you are shopping the long term, the Macan Electric is the model that carries the name forward.
The Velar lineup is simpler. For the 2026 model year Land Rover USA offers four Velar trims, all gas and all with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic: the Velar S and Belgravia Edition with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder (P250), and the Autobiography and Belgravia Edition Satin with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder (P400). There is no plug-in hybrid Velar in the current US lineup. That means this is a gas-versus-gas comparison against the older Macan, and a gas-versus-electric comparison against the new one. The tables below show both.
Velar figures are Land Rover USA's 2026 specification; Macan figures are Porsche USA's published technical data. "Winner" marks the larger or more capable figure, not the better car.

Read the table in two halves. On footprint, the Velar and the Macan Electric are close to a draw: the Porsche is 0.3 inches longer overall with a 0.9-inch longer wheelbase, and with mirrors extended the two are within 0.2 inches of each other. The gas Macan is the smallest of the three, about 2.8 inches shorter than the Velar with a wheelbase 2.5 inches shorter. On height and clearance, the Velar pulls clearly ahead. It is more than two inches taller than any Macan, sits higher off the ground on either suspension, and its air suspension can raise it to 9.9 inches for rough tracks. Its published wading depth is roughly 1.7 times the Macan Electric's.
Weight runs the other way. The heaviest Velar, at 4,430 pounds, is still lighter than the lightest Macan Electric at 5,004 pounds, because the Porsche carries its battery pack. The gas Macan and the Velar weigh roughly the same. For towing, the P400 Velar's 5,511 pounds and the all-wheel-drive Macan Electric's 5,512 pounds are effectively tied at the top of this class.
Velar 0–60 mph times are Land Rover's figures. Macan Electric horsepower and 0–60 are Porsche's overboost figures with Launch Control; regular output is shown in brackets.

The Macan is quicker trim for trim. The entry gas Macan beats the Velar S to 60 mph by about a second, and the Macan S matches the Velar Autobiography's price while running 4.6 seconds to its 5.2. Porsche builds the Macan as a sports car that happens to be an SUV, and the acceleration figures reflect that. The Velar, meanwhile, is the less expensive way into this size class. Its $61,600 starting price sits $3,800 below the gas Macan's and $18,700 below the Macan Electric's, and its most expensive trim, at $80,900, costs about what the entry Macan Electric does.
Fuel economy between the gas models is closer than the horsepower gap suggests. The four-cylinder Velar's 23 mpg combined beats the four-cylinder Macan's 21, and the six-cylinder Velar matches the four-cylinder Macan at 21 mpg combined. On an I-85 commute between Greenville and Spartanburg, that difference is small; the bigger running-cost decision is whether you want to fuel up at all, which is the Macan Electric's argument. Its EPA range estimates run from 290 to 332 miles depending on trim and wheels, and Porsche lists a 33-minute 10 to 80 percent DC fast charge for the base model at up to 270 kW.
Prices are manufacturer base MSRPs before destination (Land Rover lists $1,575 destination for the Velar) and before tax, title and fees. They are published list prices, not offers, and change without notice. Macan Electric range figures are the EPA estimates in Porsche's 2026-model range table; figures for the 2027 model Porsche now lists may differ, and ranges vary with wheels, temperature and driving.
The Velar's advantage is inside, not outside.
Range Rover Velar
Land Rover publishes full cabin dimensions for the Velar. See the Velar interior guide and dimensions for a seat-by-seat walk-through.
Porsche Macan
Macan Electric cargo varies with battery and audio options; the Turbo Electric sits at the low end of the range.
Even adding the Macan Electric's 2.9-cubic-foot front trunk to its best rear figure, the Porsche totals about 21 cubic feet with the rear seats up, versus the Velar's 30.9. With the seats folded, the Velar's 62.7 cubic feet is roughly 16 cubic feet more than the Macan Electric and nearly 10 more than the gas Macan. For golf bags, a dog crate or a weekend's gear for a trip up to Table Rock or the Blue Ridge Parkway, that is the difference that shows up in daily use.
We have not printed Macan legroom or headroom because Porsche's US technical data does not list them, and we would rather leave a cell empty than fill it with an estimate. If rear-seat room is a deciding factor, sit in both with the front seat set for the tallest driver in your household. For how the Velar's cabin compares with other luxury SUVs' published figures, our luxury SUV dimensions guide lays them out side by side.
Four Velar trims and nine Macan trims across two platforms.
Measurement method
Porsche's technical data for the gas Macan describes its cargo figure as volume up to the top of the rear seatback. Land Rover's US spec sheet gives a single figure behind the second row without stating the method. Some of the gap may be measurement rather than space, so the fairest check is loading your own gear into both.
Suspension
Both brands list different heights and ground clearance for coil or steel springs versus air suspension. When you compare a specific vehicle, confirm which suspension it has, since the Velar's 9.9-inch figure applies only with air suspension raised to its off-road height.
Character
The Macan's lower roof and quicker times match its sports-car tuning. The Velar's extra height, clearance and wading depth reflect Land Rover's priorities: ride comfort, a commanding view over I-385 traffic and genuine rough-road ability. Neither set of numbers is "better"; they describe different vehicles.
If you are comparing the Velar with a wider set of rivals, the Range Rover vs. competitors master guide covers the segment, and for shoppers weighing a step up in size, our Range Rover vs. Porsche Cayenne comparison runs the same exercise one class larger.
Many Velar shoppers already own a Macan and are weighing a switch, often because the family has outgrown the Porsche's cargo area or because they want to stay with gas as the combustion Macan winds down. A trade-in appraisal gives you a real number to plug into the price comparison above. Our competitor trade-in page explains what to bring and how an appraisal works; the team can walk you through the rest in person.
The quickest way to settle "which is bigger" is to load the cargo area and sit in the back seat. Browse current Velar inventory, then stop by Land Rover Greenville to compare trims in person.
Shop Velar inventory Get a Macan trade-in valueThe Velar is bigger inside and taller. It stands 66.26 inches high versus 63.8 to 63.9 inches for the Macan, and Land Rover lists 30.9 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats compared with 15.9 to 18.3 cubic feet in the Macan Electric and 17.2 cubic feet in the gas Macan. The Macan Electric is 0.3 inches longer overall at 189.2 inches versus the Velar's 188.9.
Yes, for now. Porsche's US site lists the gas Macan, Macan T, Macan S and Macan GTS as 2026 models alongside the Macan Electric lineup. Automotive press reports that 2026 is expected to be the gas Macan's final model year in the US.
With the rear seats up, the Velar's 30.9 cubic feet is about 12.6 to 15 cubic feet more than the Macan Electric's rear cargo area and 13.7 more than the gas Macan's 17.2. With the seats folded, the Velar offers 62.7 cubic feet versus 44.4 to 46.8 for the Macan Electric and 53.1 for the gas Macan. The two brands measure cargo differently, so compare with your own gear as well.
The Macan is quicker trim for trim. Land Rover lists 0 to 60 mph in 7.1 seconds for the P250 Velar and 5.2 seconds for the P400. Porsche lists 6.0 seconds for the base gas Macan, 4.3 seconds for the Macan GTS, and as quick as 3.1 seconds for the Macan Turbo Electric with Launch Control.
They are effectively tied at the top. The P400 Velar is rated at 5,511 pounds and the P250 at 5,291 pounds. Porsche lists 5,512 pounds for the Macan 4, 4S, GTS and Turbo Electric, and 4,409 pounds for the base Macan Electric and the gas Macan and Macan T.
No. The 2026 US Velar lineup is gas only: the S and Belgravia Edition use a 247-horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder, and the Autobiography and Belgravia Edition Satin use a 395-horsepower 3.0-liter six-cylinder, all with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic.
