Introducing the Range Rover Velar, Land Rover's first new model since 2007 when the Evoque was released. Land Rover is calling its new model the "avant-garde Range Rover" and that it will "fill the white space between the Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport.
"We call the Velar the avant-garde Range Rover," said Land Rover Chief Design Officer Gerry McGovern. "It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything."
Range Rover Velar Information | What Does Velar Mean?
The word "velar" was first used in the late '60s to refer to Land Rover's pre-launch prototypes. According to Land Rover, "when development engineers needed to hide the true identity of the 26 pre-production Range Rover vehicles, they chose the name Velar, derived from the Latin 'velare' meaning to veil or cover."
